How to predict the Premier League table

1. Start with the bands, not the order

Sort clubs into bands before you sort them into positions: title contenders, European chasers, comfortable mid-table, clubs in a rebuild, and likely relegation candidates. Bands are much easier to get right than exact places, and because placement points reward being close, a correct band already protects most of your score.

2. Weigh squad change over last season's finish

Last season's table is a starting point, not an answer. Look at who lost their first-choice goalkeeper or centre-backs, who changed manager late in the window, and who sold a player responsible for a large share of their goal involvements. Those are the clubs that move furthest.

3. Do not let the top four eat your attention

The points you can gain by getting positions 8 to 17 roughly right usually exceed what you gain from arguing about first and second. Give the middle of the table the same care as the top.

4. Treat the bonus questions as separate bets

Bonus questions such as champion and relegation are scored on their own. That means you can, deliberately, be a little braver in a bonus answer than you are in the table itself.

5. Plan for the Mid Season reset

Season Call opens a second, independent prediction at the halfway point, weighted lower than the Pre Season one. Use it properly: by January you know which promoted side is drowning and which manager has changed a team's shape. The Mid Season round is where an early misread gets repaired.

6. Week scores: respect the draw

In week-by-week Premier League play you predict exact scores, with a partial reward for the right outcome. Beginners almost never predict draws and lose steadily because of it. Aweek a quarter of Premier League matches finish level, so a scoreline like 1-1 in a tight fixture is often the highest-value prediction on the board.

7. Build the habit

The players at the top of a league leaderboard are rarely the boldest. They are the ones who predict every week. Turn on the deadline reminder, install the app to your home screen, and give the week two minutes when the fixtures land.
